About

Dirk R. Diefendorf, MD is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and is a Board-Certified Fellowship trained Sports Medicine Specialist in San Mateo, California. He completed his undergraduate degree at UCLA and received his MD degree at Northwestern University. He completed his Orthopedic Surgical residency at USC, during which time he worked at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic for a 4-month Sports Medicine rotation. Dr. Diefendorf is an active staff member at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, CA and at Waverley Surgery Center in Palo Alto, CA. He accepts multiple insurance plans.

Dr. Diefendorf has served as the Team Orthopedic Surgeon for Serra High School for 28 years and has provided on-field orthopedic care for all Serra athletes.

Dr. Diefendorf completed a one-year Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute where he specialized in Shoulder and Knee arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is Board-Certified in Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

Dr. Diefendorf regularly attends advanced educational courses in Sports Medicine and has been an instructor at many of these courses in the past.
